Apollo Bay was just amazing, the view from the top of the hill at Andys place was just stunning, we stayed there for 5 days. Managed a couple of bike rides, first one we headed down to Lorne, another beautiful spot, I have to say there werent any places along the Great Ocean rd that werent worth looking at.Got a wet bum at the end of that ride but that was ok we were almost back.
Second ride was up to Port Campbell and included the 12 Apostles, bit further this ride but the weather stayed fine, cold and windy though......
Eventualy had to leave the Bay and continued our journey along the Great Ocean rd, called in for photos at London Bridge, Bay of Martyrs, Bay of Islands , finished up in Port Fairy and had a visit with my Uncle Peter, was most enjoyable , he's having some back trouble but apart from that was in pretty good health.
Onto Portland for a camp that night.
In the morning made our way along the coast, Pelican Point, Black Fellowes Caves, Southport, Millicent and free camped at Beachport.
The morning saw us passing through Robe, Kingston,Cape Jaffa,Coorong,Tailem Bend, arrived at Karoonda on Charlie Mansfields farm for a free camp for a couple of days. Charlie took us on a tour through Loxton,Beri, Waikerie,Blanchetown, Mannum, where we saw one of the river locks in action, lots of pelicans, most of these towns were along the Murray river but the surrounding country was very dry so we didnt see it at its best
Charlie had a sleep in the next day so we headed off, driving through Port Wakefield, Clinton, Murray Bridge,Ardrosson and camped at Coobowrie, friendly place, Woody asked the bloke at the pub if we could stay out the back with the van and he said yeh no worries boys.We having a drink in the pub and the bloke (Travis) says look that might be a bit noisy there with trucks and so on passing during the night, why dont you park your van at the big 2 story house next door ,its mine which I rent out out, no one in it till December, shower and toilet in the big shed round the back. Up early had a swim, was awesome.
So now we driving round Yorke Peninsular, what a day 42 degrees, 100kmh winds, hardly hold the van on the road, apart from that the peninsular was pretty ordinary, the coast had no character , not much vegetation, some nice crops though. Had enough of the wind so we pulled in at Arno Bay for a camp, too windy to cook so had a feed at the local and we swam in the ocean , I just went in my shorts and T shirt got out ....dry in 20 minutes, man that was a hot wind, in fact it did not cool down until 3 am, when the wind came round to the south.
Now we doing the Eyre Peninsular, this was a lot better , some of the coast was magnificent, particularly at Venus Bay, Port Lincoln, Coffin Bay and Elliston.
Had to happen, we are now at Ceduna where we camped last night, going to buy some fish then head across that big long road, 3 days should be home....will let you know....
